Unrest || Don

Don radioed Mac and looked around. "I'm on the 43rd floor, Mac. It's like a damn ghost town up here." he said.

Mac nodded as him and the crew hit the landing on the 42nd floor. "Alright, we're one floor below you, Don."

Don nodded and did all he could to help out the pregnant woman before Mac showed up with the medical crew. "Sounds good, Mac. I'm just keeping this nice woman as calm as I can before help arrives." he said.

Mac and the unit got the floor as quickly as they could and found Don with the vics. The medical unit set right to work as Mac looked around the floor. Don was right, it was a freaking ghost town on this floor. But that made no sense! None of these floors should be deserted like this, not yet! There was hundreds of people in this building, shouldn't there be more people moving through here to get out? These questions drove him to the stairwell to the next floor and up the stairs. He could swear he made out a distinct clicking sound, and it wasn't the sound of his shoes against the stairs. He didn't like that sound and he hit the next landing cautiously, finding the next floor deserted as well. He frowned, stepping off the landing and pulling his gun from his holster. The clicking noise was louder on this floor and was still audible over the sounds of his footsteps echoing through the empty floor.

Don didn't like Mac being all alone on the 44th floor, so he motioned over to the medics, indicating that he was gonna be with Mac on the next floor, just as a precaution. Don took his gun from his holster and crept quietly towards the clicking noise. What the hell was that noise? Hopefully they would get answers and soon. "That sounds a lot like a ticking bomb, Mac. It's coming from in here." he said.

Mac nodded and looked back to Don before he wandered a little farther on the floor, coming around the corner and nearly dropping his gun in his surprise. "Holy shit,"he muttered, taking three steps backwards as his gaze traveled over the complicated mass of wires and explosive materials. "RUN!"he yelled without a second thought after catching the time left out of the corner of his eye. There was just no way this day could get any worse, could it?

Don radioed the bomb squad as he and Mac ran to get out of the building. "THIS IS DETECTIVE FLACK, WE NEED THE BOMB SQUAD RIGHT AWAY AT THE FEDERAL BUILDING!!!!"

Mac skidded and nearly slipped as he struggled to slow enough to take the sharp turn down the stairs after Don, gun already holstered again. He was halfway down the stairway to the floor where they'd left the medical units when the bomb went off and he was thrown forward from the blast, hitting the wall and then the floor hard. It took him a few seconds to get himself reorganized and he shook his head slowly, grabbing the railing and dragging himself back to his feet. He shook his head to try and rid himself of the ringing in his ears and he felt searing pain in his left leg and right arm. "DON!"he yelled, looking around for his friend, praying he was alright.

Don was hit in the left shoulder, along with this chest area, the same area he was hit the first time this building was hit. "MAC!!!" he shouted weakly, struggling to catch his breath.

Mac winced, but was distracted from the pain by Don's response. He started down the stairs again, trying to ignore the fact that every time he put down his left leg, white hot daggers of pain coursed through him. He quickly found Don. "Don,"he repeated, looking over his partner in concern. By now, he could feel the blood from his own leg injury soaking through his clothing. "Jesus, are you alright?"he asked, kneeling down at Don's side and looking over where he'd been hit in concern.

Don looked at Mac, then at his injuries, wincing in agony. "The debris nailed me pretty good. Damn, my chest hurts. I feel like I got hit by an 18-wheeler." he said.

Mac nodded. "I know that feeling,"he muttered, pulling his radio off his belt. "Just hang in their, partner. I'm sure the two of us will do just fine,"he said. "This is Detective Mac Taylor, I'm asking for a medical unit on the 43rd floor of the Federal Building, officer in need of assistance. I repeat, I'm asking for a medical unit on the 43rd floor of the Federal Building, officer in need of assistance, officer in need of assistance!"

Don chuckled to drive his mind away from the pain that was throbbing through his body. "I couldn't have said that better myself, Mac. Well done." he said.

Mac managed a smirk as he put his radio back on his belt and winced as he sat down beside Don, talking a look at where he'd gotten nailed with debris from the blast. It was bad enough he'd gotten thrown down the stairs, but the debris hadn't helped. "Yeah, this'll definitely leave a mark,"he muttered in an attempt to lighten the mood and distract both of them from their pain.

Don managed to study Mac's injury. "Yeah I'd say I'm having it worse right now. At least u can stand on your feet. I'm like a fucking statue, with pain throbbing from ear to ear. Call me crazy but this is the only time where I want those damn pain pills." he said.

Mac nodded and let out a soft sigh. "Yeah, I got thrown down the stairs from the blast,"he muttered through gritted teeth, looking with disinterest at the blood on his fingertips. "I think I've got something in my shoulder, but I couldn't tell you anything for certain with my leg throbbing like hell,"he added. "Detectives!" Mac looked up to see there was a unit of three EMTs approaching them. "Yeah, we're here!"Mac called them over.

Don took a deep breath. "Very impressive response time, gentlemen." he said, trying to take his mind off the pain. "I got that from a movie I saw last Christmas. Jack Reacher, the one with Tom Cruise. I've always wanted to say that line."

Mac let out a chuckle. "Very nice, Don,"he commented. "We're going to take you two out to the ambulances, ok?"one of the medics said. Mac nodded. "I think I can manage, but my partner here's gonna need some help,"he said with a nod to Don.

Don threw up his hands without even hesitating to get help. That's what he wanted. "Yeah I'd say that that's pretty accurate, Mac. Take me away into that red vehicle that takes people to that smelly place called a hospital." he said.

Mac smirked and two of the medics helped Don to his feet, supporting him between the two of them and the third medic offered Mac a hand to help him to his feet. Mac accepted the help without question, knowing it wasn't a great idea to protest with God knew what in his leg and arm. He winced as he stood, hesitant to put weight down with his left leg. "Why don't I help you with that, Detective?"the medic pressed. Mac nodded and gritted his teeth. "I believe that would be wise of me to accept."

Don smirked, not being able to breathe and he suddenly lost consciousness. "Detective Flack?? Can u hear me? Detective!!!!!!! I'm not getting a pulse!!!" the medic said.

"Shit,"Mac muttered, looking at his friend in concern. The third medic joined his team and shot Mac a look. "Don't worry about me! I'll be fine, get him out there!"Mac snarled quickly, feeling like a Captain in the Marines again. "Go! I'll be fine!"

Danny and Lindsay soon arrived at the Federal Building. "Mac, u all right? What the hell happened in there?" Danny asked, just before the medics took Don and rushed him to the hospital. "He's gonna be ok isn't he, Mac? What happened in there? It looks a lot like what happened here 5 years ago."

Mac let a grimace slip past his guards for that kind of thing. "We were inside when the second explosive went off,"he said, watching in concern as the medics got Don in the ambulance. "He and I got nailed and I was thrown down the stairs of the 43rd and 44th or so floors,"he continued, he carefully kept weight off his left leg as he pulled out his phone. He needed all hands on deck here, off duty or not.

Danny sighed. "Perfect. Any casualties up there, Mac?" he asked.
